Los Angeles, California A devastating construction accident shook a major mall development site in California earlier Tuesday after a massive crane collapsed during ongoing structural work, leaving at least 10 people injured and several others trapped temporarily beneath debris.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene shortly after witnesses reported hearing a loud metallic crash followed by clouds of dust rising above the construction zone. Authorities immediately evacuated nearby streets as firefighters and paramedics worked urgently to rescue injured workers.

Among those injured was the lead contractor, Dele Done, who was overseeing the final phase of the project at the time of the collapse. Officials confirmed he is currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital and remains in stable condition.

Eyewitnesses Describe Chaos

Workers and nearby residents described scenes of panic as the towering crane reportedly lost balance before crashing directly into unfinished sections of the mall structure.

“It sounded like thunder,” one witness said. “People started running everywhere.”

Investigators are now examining whether mechanical failure, weather conditions, or structural stress contributed to the incident.

He also shared heartfelt words about his personal life, mentioning his daughter Jane and his partner Aracely, whom he described as his strength during recovery.

“Finding love in El Salvador still feels like magic to me,” he said emotionally. “Aracely and Jane have given me peace and purpose beyond work.”

Done stated that he had hoped this mall project would become his final construction contract before stepping away from the industry.

“I wanted this to be my last contract something meaningful for the community,” he added. “I ask everyone to remain patient while investigators determine exactly what happened.”

City officials have launched a full investigation into the collapse. Safety inspectors and engineers remain at the site as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Construction on the mall has been suspended indefinitely.
